Responsibilities for this Position

Bath Iron Works is seeking an Engineer II/III to join our Safety & Health department. In this role you will be r esponsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline in a very dynamic, fast paced shipyard industry.

Duties include but not limited to :

• Identifying workplace hazards and feasible means of abatement;
• Providing direction and technical support on compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems.
• Reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs.
• Assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards.
• Participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections.
• Developing fall protection plans.
• Conducting root cause accident and incident investigations and developing subsequent corrective actions.
• Providing training as necessary.

Openings on 1st and 2 nd shifts.

• Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Specific demonstrated experience in work place health and safety programs/oversight may be substituted for educational requirements.

• 1-5 years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs.
• Experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard preferred.
• Specific experience in lifting and handling, rigging, fall protection, confined space entry, industrial hygiene and / or ergonomics preferred.
• Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA and/or industry standards preferred.
• Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights (required).
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Access required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to successfully multi-task and to plan and coordinate time dependent activities required.
• Good organizational skills, strong interpersonal, team building, and decision making abilities required.
• Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities required.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with personnel in all areas and levels of the company required.
• Demonstrated training skills required.
