Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Athletic Director, this position is responsible for advising, monitoring, and assisting in the work required to comply with The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Mid-American Conference (MAC) and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) rules and regulations which include but are not limited to: amateurism, eligibility, playing and practice seasons; financial aid, education and monitoring of student athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff; sportsmanship, ethical conduct, equity, and related matters. The Director will also assist with other duties as assigned.

This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

Job Description

Essential Duties

NCAA Compliance:
  • Direct, coordinate, monitor, and verify compliance with all NCAA requirements; Educate various constituencies of the University and the community regarding NCAA/MAC/NCHC regulations;
  • Work with institution's registrar, faculty athletic representative, and NCAA Eligibility Center to certify requirements for student-athletes' initial, continuing, and transfer eligibility;
  • Complete and monitor rosters/squad lists for all 19 Division I sports teams, including financial aid;
  • Educate and monitor playing and practice seasons, including but not limited to CARA logs, summer leagues, employment, competition dates, and tournament/post season play;
  • Educate and monitor student-athletes and staff regarding amateurism including, but not limited to professional teams, agents, employment, promotions;
  • Administer the Student-Athlete Guidelines, Drug Test Consent, and other conference and national forms to all student-athletes;
  • Assist with investigations and reporting of any suspected regulation violations, including follow-up instruction and education to those staff and/or student-athletes subsequently found to be in violation of any pertinent rules; Part of the process of NCAA and EADA reporting (Sport Sponsorship, APR, SAF/SAOF, etc.).
  • Oversees and monitors department name, image and likeness (NIL) program.
  • Create educational programming for both prospective and current student-athletes, coaches and staff and outside entities.
  • Create and maintain a marketing and branding program to support the student-athlete experience. Responsible for the use of department athletic-related software including NCAA Compliance Assistant, ARMS and Teamworks. Comply with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
  • Manage staff, and identify and oversee the education of and work product of compliance assistants and interns.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and NCAA regulation-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in appropriate area of specialization; 2-5 years of full-time experience working in an NCAA Division I athletics compliance setting (NCAA office, conference office, collegiate institution). Division I compliance experience in eligibility, financial aid, amateurism; experience monitoring bylaws related to eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, employment, agents; experience with management/supervision of staff.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; the ability to make independent, informed decisions in a demanding environment; excellent communication skills across multiple constituencies; ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive work environment; Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
