Salary Information:

Top base pay at year five (as of 07/01/2024): $78,278.30 ($37.63/hour)
Top total pay at year five, including additional incentives: At least $86,500.00
Raise schedule includes a 2.5% increase on 01/01/2025 (5th year base of $80,235.17 -- $38.57/hour) and another 2.5% on 07/01/2025 (5th year base of $82,241.12 -- $39.54/hour).

Department Overview:

The Parma Heights Police Department, located in Northeast Ohio, is dedicated to the safety and security of its residents, businesses, and visitors. The department consists of 35 members, including a chief, one captain, eight sergeants, 21 full-time patrol officers, three detectives, and a school resource officer. The department is an active member of a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team and a multi-agency crash team, and it also has a K-9 officer. The department is working on implementing a drone unit and prides itself on excellent community relations, with strong support from both the administration and the residents. The department handles approximately 17,000 calls for service annually and actively engages in public relations activities. Promotional opportunities are available as needed.

The City of Parma Heights is located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, covering 4.19 square miles. It is bordered on three sides by the City of Parma, with the cities of Middleburg Heights and Brook Park forming the western border.

Necessary Certifications: Successful completion of the Cuyahoga Community College Physical Agility Test (prior to appointment)
Hiring Process:

Extensive background investigation, including driving records, criminal records, substance use, financial responsibility, voice stress analysis, psychological exam, and physical exam.
Structured panel interview.
Polygraph or voice stress analysis examination.
Psychological examination, including an oral interview.
Physical examination, including a complete medical exam, stress test, and evaluation.
Drug and alcohol screening.
Mandatory Disqualifying Factors:

Candidates will be removed from consideration for the following:

Honesty/Falsification: Any attempt to conceal or falsify information during the selection process.
Family History: Verified or admitted abuse, non-compliance with court orders, or violations of protective orders within specified time frames.
Employment: Discharge or resignation in lieu of discipline from a public safety occupation.
Military History: Dishonorable discharge or equivalent to a felony conviction under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Traffic Offenses: Lack of a valid driver's license, vehicular homicide convictions, or uninsurability.
Gambling Offenses: Convictions within the last five years.
Criminal Activity: Fraudulent claims or convictions of certain criminal offenses.
Substance Abuse: Illegal drug sales or a pattern of substance abuse within the last three years.
General: Failure to provide required certifications or failure to attend scheduled testing.
Extra Credit:

Military Service: 10% (with proof of honorable discharge)
OPOTA Certification: 10%
Two years of sworn police officer experience: 10%
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice: 10%
Bachelor's Degree in other fields: 7%
Associate's Degree: 5%
The maximum total for extra credit is 15%.
